Best Competitive Benchmarking Tools for F&B in Saudi Arabia

Brandwatch vs Meltwater vs Sprout Social, plus 2 more: the best social listening tools for competitive benchmarking, compared for F&B in Saudi Arabia.

A rival launches a new iced coffee in a can. By the weekend, Saudi consumers are comparing it with yours on TikTok, arguing about the price on X and posting it on Snapchat. Your sales report will show the effect weeks later.

Most food and beverage teams still benchmark with what is easy to count: followers, posts and likes on official pages. That shows how a rival's content performs. It does not show who is winning the category conversation, or why.

That conversation is in Arabic, much of it in Saudi dialect, and most of it never tags a company. This is where many benchmarking tools lose accuracy. Here is what to benchmark in F&B, how to choose a tool, and five platforms worth comparing in 2026.

What is competitive benchmarking in food and beverage?

Competitive benchmarking compares your company with a set of rivals on the same measures, over the same period. For a packaged F&B company, that set might be three dairy companies, two ready-to-drink coffee lines and a fast-growing local snack company.

A useful benchmark covers two layers: owned performance (each company's own pages and posts) and earned conversation (what consumers, creators and media say everywhere else). Our step-by-step competitor analysis guide covers the method.

What to benchmark in food and beverage

  1. Share of voice. Your share of the category conversation against each rival, by platform and month, and how it moves around Ramadan, summer, back to school and Saudi National Day.
  2. Sentiment against rivals. Whether talk about each company is positive, negative or neutral, side by side. Read emotion separately: a rival's new flavour can score neutral on sentiment and still carry clear excitement.
  3. Launch response. How the market received each rival's new product in its first weeks: trial, taste verdicts, repeat buying and availability.
  4. Price perception. How often each company appears next to "غالي" (expensive) or "يستاهل" (worth it), and what shifts after a promotion or a pack-size change.
  5. Creator share. Which creators carry each company's conversation on TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram, and how much of it is paid versus organic.
  6. Campaign response. What each rival's campaign changed in share of voice, sentiment and repeated themes, against the weeks before it.

How to choose: 5 questions to ask

  1. Does it benchmark the conversation, or only the pages? Page analytics compare rivals' content. Listening compares what the market says. Most F&B teams need both, and the tools below lean differently.
  2. Does it read Saudi dialect accurately? Ask for a sample from your own category. A sarcastic post like "يا حلاوة الطعم، كأني أشرب موية" (what a lovely taste, like drinking water) should not count as praise.
  3. Does it count untagged and misspelled rival mentions? Consumers use nicknames, short forms and Franco-Arabic. Tracking handles alone undercounts every company, and not equally.
  4. Can it compare the same window for every rival? Launch week against launch week, Ramadan against Ramadan, not the dashboard's default range.
  5. Does it cover the platforms that matter in Saudi F&B? TikTok, Snapchat, X and Instagram are central to food and drink conversation in Saudi Arabia. Google Maps reviews matter for outlets.

Brandwatch vs Meltwater vs Sprout Social for competitor analysis

Each starts from a different place. Sprout Social starts from social media management and adds competitor reports and competitive listening. Meltwater starts from media intelligence, so its share of voice can cover news, podcasts and broadcast alongside social.

The right one depends on what you need to benchmark: your pages, the social conversation, or total media.

What actually decides it for F&B in Saudi Arabia

All five platforms are capable, and the global ones serve many markets well. But a benchmark is a comparison, so any error in reading Arabic counts twice: it skews your number and your rival's number, often in different directions. When Saudi consumers praise with sarcasm, nickname a product or write in Franco-Arabic, a tool that misreads them hands you the wrong share of voice and the wrong sentiment gap. dima reads Arabic with 97% accuracy, including dialects, slang and Franco-Arabic. That is the specific problem it was built to solve.
